Hops need a climbing aid to grow
Without trellis, hops can not be pulled in the garden. The hop tendrils must be able to climb on a trellis or tensioned ropes to reach their considerable height.
Without rank help it does not work
As a climber hops form long tendrils that grow up to seven meters or even longer. Without support, the plant would take care of the soil. In nature, hops grow on trees and shrubs.
In the garden you have to provide a climbing aid. For this you can use all trellises with narrow bars. If no trellis is available, hops can also be pulled on tensioned wires.
Hop tendrils always have to be led around the ranch to the right. If they are turned to the left, the hops stop growing.
Tips
Hops are very decorative as a blind in summer. The leaves are similar to vine leaves. While the flowering is rather inconspicuous, show in late summer, the green-yellow cones that you can even harvest.
