These differ in their nature, in their appearance and their processing. Granite or basalt can be used for dark colored raised beds. Those who like it brighter, on the other hand, resort to sandstone. Constructions made of dolomite or crystalline marble, on the other hand, look very noble. Of course, many of the mentioned types of rocks are quite expensive. You can save a lot of money by using field stones - which you have collected yourself, for example.

You can create a natural stone raised bed without mortar as a drywall or as a masonry variant. For dry stone walls, irregularly shaped stones are best suited, which are stacked firmly on top of each other and their joints may be filled with potting soil or gravel. For mortared walls, on the other hand, stones with a straight, even edge, which are carefully placed on top of each other and firmly walled up, are recommended. For both constructions, a foundation is necessary for which you excavate a pit at least 20 centimeters deep. Their soil must be carefully compacted with a vibrator, then fill with gravel. This one too is to be condensed. Depending on the statics, floor slabs cast in concrete or point foundations could be useful for walls of corresponding height.
Tips
To make your natural stone raised bed look more appealing, you can clean it regularly. This can be done mechanically with a sponge, water and soap - or, especially with materials such as marble or dolomite, with a steam or high pressure cleaner.
