To multiply autumn raspberries - this is how you breed new shrubs
You have a delicious autumn raspberry variety in the garden and would like to grow more shrubs? Increase existing raspberry plants. This succeeds even beginners easily. Previous knowledge is not required.
The different methods of propagation
Autumn raspberries can be multiplied in different ways, namely by:
Propagation by Wurzelausläufer
Propagation by Wurzelausläufer takes over the plant itself, especially if it is an older raspberry variety. It forms numerous offshoots that spread throughout the garden.
As soon as the first raspberry leaves appear above the ground, you can dig out the branches and put them back in the desired place. The best time for this work is autumn.
Propagation by root cuttings
Modern breeds are less foothills. Here is the multiplication by root cuttings. To do this, sting one or more pieces of about ten centimeters long with at least one eye from the rootstock of raspberry in late autumn.
Place the cuts in a nursery bed with humus soil mixed with a little sand. Cover the root pieces with a layer of mulch.
In the spring remove the mulch cover. Soon, the plants will develop new plants, which you can transplant to the desired location.
Propagation by sinkers
Bend a ripened raspberry plant to the ground. Anchor the shoot with hooks or pegs and sprinkle soil over it in several places.
The roots covered with soil develop small roots. As soon as the first leaves appear, cut off the pieces and plant them in the garden.
Absenker can win you over the whole garden year over.
Propagation by seeds
You can gain seeds by artificially fertilizing the blossom of an autumn raspberry. When the fruit has developed, the seeds are gently leached out.
However, multiplying raspberries by seeds is not recommended. It takes a long time for shrubs to form and it is not certain that the desired autumn raspberry variety will develop.
Tips & Tricks
Autumn raspberries are particularly suitable for propagation by root cuttings. Already next year the bushes will bear the first fruits. Summer raspberries take at least a year to harvest the first time.
