The heather feels most comfortable in the sun
Heather thrives in sunny location
Whether planted in the garden or in planters on the balcony or terrace, heather plants are quite easy to cultivate. Provided the plants are in a stand-alone location.
Lush flowering in a bright location
Both the winter and the broom heath prefer a bright place, which does not necessarily have to be in the full sun. Basically, however, the rule of thumb is that the flowering turns out to be luscious the sunnier the location. Planted in the shade, heather plants will hardly grow flowers and will grow only slightly.
Ideal soil condition
Although the heather grows on almost every soil, it prefers - due to its natural origin - a rather acidic, well-moistened substrate. Ideal is a nutrient-rich and loose soil, because waterlogging does not tolerate waterlogging at all.
Tips
Many garden soils are loamy and therefore too heavy for heath. However, they can be loosened up with sand and some peat or peat soil and thus improved.
