Hebe addenda is only partially hardy
Shrub veronica is available in many different varieties in the trade. Hebe addenda enjoys a high level of popularity, as does Hebe andersonii, because of its low stature height. Unfortunately, the pretty ornamental perennial is only partially hardy, so you need to ensure timely frost protection.
Lifting addenda tolerates only low minus temperatures
Although it is often stated differently in plant descriptions, the variety Hebe addenda is not hardy. It tolerates frost down to a temperature of minus 5 degrees, but only for a short time.
So if you want to pull hebe addenda in the garden, you need to ensure good winter protection in time in the fall.
It is even better to pull this shrub veronica strain right in the bucket. Then you can winterize them in the house frost-free in the winter.
Pull lifting addenda in the garden
If you want to cultivate lifting addenda in the garden, plant the shrubs as early as possible in the year. Then the plants have enough time to form roots to survive the winter better.
At the latest, when temperatures drop to five or less degrees outside, mulch the soil around the shrub veronica. Cover the plants with brushwood or even better pine branches.
As soon as it gets warmer again in the spring, clear away the winter protection and slowly get used to the lifting addenda for more light.
Over-winter shrub veronica in a bucket frost-free
If you have planted lifting addenda in a bucket, bring the container into the house as soon as it gets too cold outside. Overwinter the plant in a location that meets the following requirements:
Check the verbena veronica for wintering against pests.
In winter, the Hebe addenda is poured only moderately, so that the pollen just just remains wet.
Slowly get used to warmer temperatures
In the spring, you bring the ornamental shrub from the winter quarters and slowly get used to warmer temperatures. Place the planter by the hour on the terrace.
Tips
Hebe addenda has a very long flowering time. If you cut them back immediately after the first flowering, you promote a second flowering.
