Houseleek loves bright sun
The houseleek is not without reason the Latin name Sempervivum - "everlasting". The extremely adapted to very dry locations mountain plant thrives especially where other garden plants would never survive. The thick-leafed plant prefers a dry, preferably sunny location.
Sunny and dry - then the house root is good
The very robust plant loves a dry - ergo protected from constant rain showering - and full sun. Half-shady or even shady locations, on the other hand, are less suitable, as the house-roots there form little rosettes and will not bloom. Also ideal is lean, well-drained soil - for example, a loose cactus substrate.
Houseleek is ideal for the rock garden
The house root feels most comfortable in dry and sunny rock gardens, but can also be planted very well in the gaps and joints of stone and dry stone walls, on masonry crowns, roof surfaces or between stones (especially tuff and limestone). Furthermore, various planters are suitable, as long as only excess water can drain off quickly.
Tips
Although home-grown spuds love the sun, they also tolerate deep cold at the same time. The thick-leafed plants are extremely hardy.
