Fight diseases and pests of hemp palm
Hemp palms are just as robust as all palm species. With proper care and in a convenient location, neither diseases nor pests are common. Which diseases affect the hemp palm and how do you combat pests?
Which diseases and pests can occur?
Russtau is triggered by aphids
If a black surface appears on the leaves of the hemp palm, it is a river of dew. He is not life-threatening to the palm, but ensures that it does not grow properly. This fungal disease is triggered by aphids.
Simply wash the surface off. Combat all aphids so they can not leave any more excreta.
Root rot is caused by waterlogging
If many leaves turn yellow or brown, waterlogging can be the cause. The root ball is then always too moist or there is frequent water in the saucer.
Pour a hemp palm only moderately so that the root ball never completely dries out.
Fight red spiders
Red spiders are noticeable by small spines on the leaf axils. Most affected are only hemp palms, which are pulled in the house in dry room air. If the infestation is not treated, the leaves dry up.
Shower the hemp palm thoroughly in the shower. Do not forget the leaf bases.
These pests mainly occur when the humidity is too low. Spray the hemp palm regularly with water. The water should be as low in calcium as possible.
Distribute aphids
If the leaves of the hemp palm show a sticky surface, aphids are responsible for it. They leave precipitates, which are also called honeydew. Aphids suck the leaves out and let them die off.
Try to wash the aphids away from the palm using a hard shower spray. Remains remove with a soft sponge.
Then treat the hemp palm with a soapy water for several weeks, with which you can spray off the leaves. Special plant sticks that you simply put into the substrate are also a great way to fight aphids.
Tips
If the leaves of the hemp palm turn brown or yellow or get brown tips, they are usually not diseases. These discolorations are caused by too dark locations or frost damage.
