Parsley is not a light germ, but a dark germ
Parsley plays a special role among the herbs. It is unlike most other herbs, not light germs, but a dark germ. That's why you need a lot of patience to grow parsley.
This is how the sowing of the dark seed parsley works
Water seeds before sowing
Parsley seeds are very hard. If you allow the seeds to swell for several hours in lukewarm water beforehand, you can shorten the germination process. Sprinkle the seeds in the sowing pots or seed rows in the garden thinly.
Cover the seeds with a layer of soil that is two to four times as thick as the seed. In the case of parsley, that's about 1 to 1.5 inches. Gently squeeze the soil layer onto the seeds.
Place the pots in a warm place or in the field make sure that the ground is not too cold. Keep the soil surface moist.
Parsley germinates very slowly and irregularly
A good three to four weeks may pass before the first green tips appear.
Since not every seed actually germinates, you should sow enough seeds. Professional gardeners plant up to ten seeds per pot, or sow additional rows in the field.
At the latest, if the plants are five centimeters high, you must peck the parsley to a distance of at least ten centimeters. Only one plant remains in the pot. Plants in the bed where the seed is not germinated are replenished with supernumerary plants.
Parsley is growing slowly
Parsley not only germinates slowly, you also have to be patient when growing. Therefore, sow the parsley with a starter seed such as radishes that germinate in both light and dark.
Tips & Tricks
Seeds of dark germs such as parsley respond to long-wavelength light that penetrates thinner soil layers. Shortwave light inhibits the germination process. Therefore, the seeds of these plants must always be kept dark until they rise
