Causes of brown leaves on hemp palms

Hemp palms need a lot of light. In the semi-shade, only a few new fronds form, old leaves turn brown and die. Therefore, make sure that the location is as sunny as possible.

Wrong casting

Water hemp palms regularly, but only when the surface of the soil is completely dry. Avoid waterlogging.

Low humidity often occurs when keeping in the house. Here you can remedy the problem by regularly spraying the leaves with lime-free water.

Brown leaves due to frost damage

Although the hemp palm is hardy and tolerates temperatures down to -18 degrees, the leaves can freeze to death. This frost damage is not due to cold, but rather due to too much moisture during the winter.

When hibernating in the garden bed, cover the fronds with burlap or garden fleece to protect them from freezing.

Hemp palms in the tub do not tolerate so much cold. They should be wintered at a maximum of -6 degrees. If it gets colder, bring it into the house. Set it up in a cool but bright place.

Tips

The brown leaves do not look very decorative. You are welcome to cut them, but only when the leaves are completely dry. Leave a residue of at least four inches on the trunk.
