The only way to breed offshoots of hemp palm trees is to propagate seeds. This is not difficult, but it takes a long time. They have to wait up to four years to grow a new hemp palm from a seed.
The hemp palm is dioecious
The hemp palm is dioecious. This means that you need a male and a female to harvest seeds for cultivation.
Male and female hemp palms differ in the color of the flowers. Male specimens have golden yellow flowers, female flowers are light green. Only when the female flowers are pollinated, seeds can develop in it. You can do the pollination yourself with a brush.
The seeds ripen from December to January. Let them dry on the palm until they shake off. Then you can use them to grow new hemp palms.

A lot of patience required
It can take a year for a seed to germinate. Only then will the tender cotyledons become visible. Until you have pulled a real hemp palm, you have to plan another three to four years.
So you continue to care for the seedlings
Once the seedling has reached a height of at least ten centimeters, plant it in a larger pot.
The substrate must be nice and easy now. Mixtures of compost, garden soil, some peat and small-grained gravel have proven to be useful.
Water the seedlings regularly. You are not allowed to fertilize them in the first few years, as they derive their nutrients from the skins of the seeds.
The young plants are not hardy and must be wintered in a bucket. Only from the age of at least four years, the young hemp palms are robust enough to be planted in the field.
Tips
Seeds for hemp palms are also available in the specialized garden trade. Often it is safer to grow new plants from purchased seeds, as they are guaranteed fertilized and actually germinate.
