Hornbeam hedges enjoy great popularity because they are so vigorous and form a dense hedge within a few years. However, the abundant growth also has its downside: you have to cut back a hornbeam hedge more often, later at least twice a year.

A hornbeam grows slightly slower in the first few years after planting, until it gets used to the location.
But then she starts really. Between 30 and 40 centimeters of growth per year, both in height and in width.
If you do not cut the hornbeam hedge regularly, it will easily be three to four meters high and several meters wide. However, they verkaltet from below, because the lower shoots hardly branch without cutting.
Tips
Beech-tree hedges grow even faster than hornbeam hedges. Its growth per year is approximately 50 centimeters in height and width.
