Brown leaves outside the autumn time are signs of illness or deficiency
Why does the hornbeam get brown leaves?
The browning of the leaves in winter is a very natural process in the hornbeam. They dry up in the fall, but remain hanging on the tree for a very long time. It is different if the hornbeam gets brown leaves in spring or summer.
Causes of brown leaves on hornbeams
Often there is a fungal infection. It may be the leaf-spot fungus, which is noticeable by small yellow and brown spots on the leaves.
Also mildew can lead to brown leaves, if a strong infestation is not treated.
In dry summers you should occasionally water younger hornbeams so that the trees do not get brown leaves.
Tips
Hornbeams cope for a short time with very dry soil but also with floods. If the phases take too long, the leaves turn brown and the tree enters.
