Pomegranate trees have quite large flowers that bloom in hotter climates in spring and temperate in summer at the ends of new shoots in beautiful orange red. If the flowers stay out, the gardener is often a mystery.
The pomegranate trees are bred for their flowers or fruits. Corresponding varieties are commercially available. The flowers of the pomegranate trees and shrubs are self-fertile. Having pulled a pomegranate tree from seeds or cuttings, it is uncertain whether it will ever bloom and bear fruit. At times, the flowers and the fruits may take several years to come.
Flowering time, flowering and fruit
In this country, the bloom of the pomegranate trees lies in the summer months. Only this year's shoots bear flowers and fruits. The flowers are funnel-shaped, orange-red to light yellow. The fruit is apple-shaped with a diameter of about 5-10 cm, first green and later also orange red to reddish brown. It is full of edible seeds surrounded by a juicy fruit coat colored in different reds.

If you have bought a pomegranate as a container plant for the terrace or garden and experienced it once in bloom, you are often faced with a mystery when the flowering suddenly fails. The following reasons may be responsible for the missing flowers:
First of all, it can be remedied by making sure that the spring cut is done before the shoot. Furthermore, a targeted fertilizer application of a phosphorus- and potash-containing fertilizer should take place. In addition, one must not forget that the excess of nitrogen can lead to the loss of flower bud formation.

As a small-growth of the pomegranate tree, the dwarf pomegranate tree (Punica granatum Nana) is now very popular on the terraces and balconies. The small shrub, about one meter high, produces delicate flowers and fruits.
