The meadowfoam herb - a profile

It is well known to every garden owner and walker, even if some may not know the name - the meadowfoam herb. Light and fragrant it blooms in the spring. Sometimes it covers entire meadows, but unfortunately this is becoming increasingly rare.

Appearance

With delicate flowers in white, light pink or pale violet, some meadows appear like a fragrant sea in the heyday of meadowfoam. Not only the human eye but also numerous insects appreciate this, because the flowers are very rich in nutritious nectar. The leaves of the Meadowfoam are arranged quite thin and rosette-like. The flowers sit on long stems and close in the rain.

Location

The meadowfoam grows with preference on wet meadows or in alluvial forests. It can be found throughout Europe, but also occurs in Asia and North America. Meanwhile, it is becoming increasingly rare, since there are hardly any wet meadows. In some states it is even already on the Red List.

curative effect

Like many other wild herbs, the meadowfoam herb has healing powers. Thanks to its valuable ingredients, such as mustard oil glycosides, bitter substances, vitamin C and essential oils, it relieves many different ailments, but of course does not replace a doctor's visit and no necessary medication.

With meadowfoam you can relieve your spring fatigue and stimulate your metabolism. It also helps with diabetes and bronchitis, has antibacterial and digestive properties. When eating large quantities, however, it can irritate the kidneys and stomach unpleasantly.

use

For healing purposes, you do not necessarily have to use the meadowfoam herb, it also serves well in the kitchen. Its slightly spicy flavor gives soups and sauces a spicy flavor. The leaves of the meadow foam herb also taste great in fresh salads or simply on a buttered bread. The flowers serve as an edible decoration for your next party buffet or decorate your ice cubes in the future.
