Pomegranates do not count as citrus fruits
The fruit of pomegranate is a special form of berry, as is a citrus fruit. Like these, it does not ripen after harvesting. Botanically, however, Punica granatum and Citrus are not related.

The citrus plants belong to the family Rautengewächse, while the pomegranate trees are assigned to the Weiderichgewächsen.

As with citrus fruits, pomegranates are a special berry fruit that does not ripen after harvesting. With the citrus fruits, the pomegranate also combines its mild-sour taste with a slightly tart note, as we know from the grapefruit.
Both plants thrive in regions with a tropical or subtropical climate. Both the citrus and pomegranate fruits have a long maturation period. That's why a long, warm summer is needed to ripen the fruit. Both types of fruit are sensitive to frost and can therefore be kept in Germany usually only as potted plants.
differences
In contrast to the evergreen citrus trees, a pomegranate tree is a deciduous wood. Apart from numerous external differences (color of the flower and the fruit, size of the tree or shrub), the citrus fruits are susceptible to all sorts of fungal diseases and pests, in contrast to the robust pomegranate. While the pomegranate plants can easily survive the dry spell of crops like Israel, Turkey or Morocco, the citrus plants need continuous irrigation for good yields.
Tips & Tricks
The pomegranates can be squeezed out like citrus fruits. With a ripe pomegranate, however, it is necessary to be more careful, because the juice splashes leave deep red spots on the clothes, which are difficult to get out.
