Repotting the Gold Fruit Palm - How often and when?
The gold fruit palm or areca palm is growing rather slowly. Repotting does not have to be that often on the program. When is repotting necessary and what should you consider when transplanting gold fruit palms?
How often does a golden fruit palm have to be repotted?
Since the Goldfruchtpalme is not so fast-growing even with good care, it is usually sufficient if you repot the palm only every two to three years - not only to give the roots more space, but also to replace the old substrate with fresh soil.
The fact that the previous pot has become too small, you can tell by the fact that the roots grow out of the vent hole or the root ball begins to push up out of the pot.
The best time to repot golden fruit palms
Repotting is in spring in March or April, just before the growth phase starts.
Select the new planter
Like all palms, the golden fruit palm develops very long taproots, which should not be kinked if possible. The new pot should therefore be deeper than the old one. The diameter, however, has to be only slightly wider.
Make sure that the vessel has a sufficiently large drain hole so that no waterlogging can form during casting. It is beneficial if you create a drainage of gravel or small stones in the bottom of the pot.

When planting, make sure that you do not overpress the roots of the Goldfruchtpalme so that they are not kinked or broken off.
Do not fertilize golden fruit palm after repotting
The fresh plant substrate contains many nutrients. You must not fertilize the Areca palm in the first months after repotting. Otherwise there is a risk that the palm will be overfertilized.
Tips
The gold fruit palm is one of the slow-growing palm species. In our latitudes, they often only annually up to 25 centimeters in height. On some specimens ground shoots form, through which you can multiply gold fruit palms.
