Bluebells are particularly popular for the colorful planting of rockeries, dry stone or as ground cover in perennial beds or under tall trees. The pretty plants with their delicate, usually blue or violet flowers are also ideal for cultivation in the tub or flower box.
All species suitable for bucket keeping
In principle, all commercially available Campanula species can easily be cultivated in a bucket, a traffic light or a flowerbed, as long as they can stand on the balcony or terrace. On the other hand, if you want to cultivate your bluebells in the room, they will be more responsive to specially bred species and varieties. B. Campanula Isophylla. On the balcony, on the other hand, the species with their long shoots, which are rather upholstery-like, make a good impression in the planter or the traffic light.
Maintaining bluebells on the balcony
Basically, the same rules apply to caring for the bluebells on the balcony as to specimens planted out in the garden, provided, however, that you are regularly responsible for adequate water and fertilizer supplies. Potted plants, unlike garden plants, are unable to self-sustenance because the limited substrate is quickly depleted. Above all, a drying out of the pot in midsummer can cause the death of the plant by dehydration. In winter, bring the bluebells better into the house and overwinter as cool and dark as possible.

With regard to the site, you must have the opportunity to highlight the bellflower from the direct midday sun, especially on balconies facing south. For this purpose, a plant board with rollers underneath, on which the pot with the plant stands. You just have to push it into the shadows. Bluebells feel particularly well at light to partially shaded locations, but often tolerate no blazing sun.
Tips & Tricks
Potted plants depend on your regular care to survive. Especially in small planters - such as flower boxes - you have to be very careful, because errors or a lack of watering shows particularly quickly negative consequences.
