Red spots can be an indication of illness
Brilliant medlar with red spots - causes and measures
They emerge without warning and give up puzzles. When red patches spread on the leaves of the glossy medlar, quick action is required. The right care helps.
This can lead to red spots:
drought stress
When the ground freezes in winter, the roots can not absorb water. The plants lose moisture through evaporation. This process is reinforced by direct sunlight. As a result, a water deficit arises, which means drought stress for the plant. This is manifested by burgundy spots and spots on the leaves, which can be limited depending on the extent or spread over the entire leaf area.
You can prevent drought by paying attention to the optimal location when planting the trees. Brambles prefer a growth in winter-mild areas without long-lasting frosts. Although numerous varieties of medlar are offered as hardy, they are sensitive to permafrost. Protect the root ball with fir branches, brushwood or fleece. Before the winter, pour the plant pervasively so that it can fill up its water deposits.
Wrong care measures
Glossy medlars do not have a large water requirement. They only need to be cast when the top layer of soil has dried. If there are long periods of drought in summer, the need for water increases. The plant loses more water than usual through the dry air. Not being regularly watered will result in heat-related drought stress.
Make sure in the summer that your shrubs get enough water. The soil dries up faster, as the warm air can absorb more water. As a result, the roots get less water. A penetrating casting helps.
anthracnose
This fungal disease affects the leaves of weak and diseased plants. The spores settle on the leaf surface and form red or brown spots. Mushrooms prefer a moist environment. They spread in poorly aerated plant stands, settle on fall leaves and benefit from warm and humid summer months.
Remove affected leaves and spray the entire plant with a copper sulfate-containing fungicide. To strengthen the plant, mix a sprinkling of field horsetail regularly with the irrigation water. When planting your garden, make sure that the shrubs are not too close together.
