The yellow pond rose - a small profile

As the name suggests, the yellow pond rose does not bloom in many different colors but only in yellow. However, less is known to many garden owners that this plant is not just a yellow water lily.

Both the water lilies (Nymphaea) and the pond roses (Nuphar) are plant genera from the family of water lily plants. But they differ considerably in the leaf and in the flower form. The water lilies have round leaves and open flowers in a wide variety of colors. The pond roses, however, have heart-shaped leaves and spherical almost always yellow flowers.

Natural distribution areas of the yellow pond rose

The yellow pond rose is quite widespread and can be found from North Africa to Eurasia, but also in the Caribbean and the eastern United States. In Germany, you can admire the yellow pond rose in the wild, but here it is often considered endangered or even highly endangered and in some states even on the Red List.

The yellow pond rose likes standing or slightly flowing waters with muddy nutrient-rich soil. It tolerates cooler and deeper water than its related water lilies. Occasionally you will find this plant in a bog lake.

The right location for the yellow pond rose

Do not necessarily plant the Yellow Daffodil in a Miniature Pond. For one, it prefers a water depth of at least one meter to about two and a half meters. On the other hand, the pond rose tends to proliferate and has soon taken a very small pond completely and leaves no room for other aquatic plants. In return, it thrives, in contrast to the so-popular water lilies, even in a shady location quite well.

The yellow pond rose is relatively easy to maintain, but it tends to abundant rhizome growth. For this reason, you should prune your plant from time to time. If she grew up, you can share her. A special winter care does not need the hardy pond rose.
