Forsythia is one of the most flowering ornamental shrubs in our gardens. It is not often that a forsythia does not bloom. If the shrub does not develop flowers, there are always care mistakes. Mostly the plants were cut at the wrong time.
Possible causes of missing forsythia blossom
Pruning at the wrong time
The flowers of forsythia develop on the previous year's shoots. Cutting back at the wrong time or a radical cut cuts off these shoots. It is not surprising, then, if the forsythia does not want to bloom.
A regular pruning is necessary so that the bushes do not corrode and the new shoots more space remains. You cut the forsythia properly if you just remove the old shoots and leave the shoots of the previous year.
The pruning should be done right after flowering in May. Then you will see much better which forsythia branches have carried flowers and now the scissors may fall victim.
Forsythia does not cut in the fall
For many garden lovers, it is a tradition to winterize the garden in the fall and to cut back all shrubs.
In forsythia, such a pruning is fatal because you remove all the flowers.

The heyday of forsythia begins in April. If an alleged forsythia is already in full bloom in March or even in winter, it is in most cases not forsythia, but winter jasmine.
