Flaming Käthchen as a perennial cut flower
The Flaming Käthchen (Kalanchoe blossfeldiana) has received its German name due to the fire-red blooming wild form.Meanwhile, numerous other flower colors have been created by breeding, which can bring not only as a houseplant in the pot perennial flowers in their own four walls.
The perennial splendor of succulent blossom beauties
While many other flower beauties unfold their splendor only for a few days a year, the Flaming Katy is a true perennial. Another reason for the popularity of Kalanchoe blossfeldiana as a room and seasonal balcony plant is the relatively simple care. Even in midsummer, the succulent plant usually only needs to be watered once a week; fertilizer inputs are sometimes not necessary when repotting into a fresh succulent substrate every year. Even as cut flowers in a glass of water, the flowers of the flaming Käthchens hold much longer than many other cut flowers. For up to three weeks, you can enjoy a colorful bouquet of different cultivars, with a change of water in the vase only once a week is necessary.

In a sufficiently bright location the Flammende Käthchen can certainly reach considerable heights in the course of time. Therefore, it may make sense for a more compact growth form, the plants cut back quite vigorously once a year. After all, in winter, this short-lived plant simply needs a rest period of about 6 weeks with around 14 hours of periods of darkness. Since even artificial light can cause a failure of the flowers in the following year, the Flammende Käthchen must be wintered in a relatively dark room with absolute darkness during the night hours.
Tips
Although the Flammende Käthchen is actually safe for humans, the consumption by cats can lead to poisoning symptoms. Even as a cut flower, the Kalanchoe blossfeldiana should therefore not be placed in a room accessible to domestic cats.
