What sets the false rose of Jericho apart from the real one?
Under the name "Rose of Jericho" different, adapted to the inhospitable conditions of their homeland desert plants are summarized. These - dead or not - are resurrected by placing them in a bowl of cold water. For this reason, their lovers also refer to them as "resurrection plants", in which Jericho's Real Rose, in particular, has a deep, mystical meaning. But how can the "wrong" be distinguished from the "real" Jerichorose?
The Real Rose of Jericho (Anastatica hierochuntica)
The so-called Real Rose of Jericho is in the hot and dry areas of North Africa and the Arabian Peninsula, Israel and Jordan as far as Pakistan widespread. The desert plant lives only for a year and dies after the successful education of pods and seeds. The leaves of the plant curl up and hide the seeds inside - so the offspring should be protected from the merciless desert sun. At the next rainfall, the plant unfolds and releases the seeds. However, this is only apparently a revival, because the mother plant is - and remains - actually dead.
Revive the Real Rose of Jericho
This revival effect can be understood at home by placing the withered Jerichorose in a bowl of cold or warm water - it will unfold within a few hours and become a dark olive brown color.
Loggerhead Rose of Jericho (Selaginella lepidophylla)
Selaginella lepidophylla, a native of Central America moss fern sold as "Rose of Jericho" especially on medieval markets and in the run-up to Christmas. However, this is not the Real Rose of Jericho, but - in essence - a plagiarism. Nevertheless, the resurrection effect can also be understood very well in this plant, often referred to as the Loggerhead Rose of Jericho - which, in fact, is not dead but, as a so-called dry plant, reacts to extreme drought with complete dehydration and survives.
Pallenis hierichuntica
It is also a daisy family, also from the desert regions of North Africa and the Middle East, which reacts to irrigation by opening its fruit stalk. Pallenis hierichuntica is also one of the humid plants.

Real or fake: The Rose of Jericho is given away as a symbol for Christmas and Easter. In addition, the plant should give the recipient health and happiness.
