Fan palm properly over winter
Fan palms are only partially hardy and need good protection in the field to survive the winter. It is better to pull the palm in the bucket or as a houseplant so that you can better overwinter it.

Fan palms tolerate freezing temperatures down to minus 8 degrees for a short time. So you are not really hardy. In a sheltered location, you can try to spend the winter outdoors. But this only works for older copies.
Cover the floor with a thick mulch layer. Tie the fronds together at the top to protect the palm's heart not only from frost but also from winter wetness. Cover the fan palm with bamboo mats, brushwood or special winter fleeces.
It is better, however, to draw fan palms in the bucket so that you can safely overwinter them in the house.

Fan palms need plenty of light even in winter. If it is very dark at the winter location, the leaves turn brown. With plant lamps you can provide more brightness. Pour the fan palm sparse in winter. But make sure that the pot bale does not dry out completely.
A big problem in winter is the low humidity, which arises especially in heated rooms. Sprinkle the fan palm fronds with soft water to make the air moister. You can also set bowls with water.
Tips
You do not have to cut fan palms. If brown leaves have developed, you may cut them naturally. The best time to do so is late autumn before you overwinter the fan palm.
