The dragon tree as a house plant: size and growth
Strictly speaking, dragon trees are not trees at all, but as tree-shaped plants they have only a woody trunk with or without branching. While ancient dragon trees in nature can reach quite considerable proportions, the specimens cultivated as houseplants are much more compact.
The different dimensions of different dragon trees
In the Canary Islands, and especially in the holiday paradise of Tenerife, there are centuries-old dragon trees in nature, some of them reaching a height of almost 20 meters. These dimensions are hard to imagine if, over a few years, the offshoot of a dragon tree is cherished and maintained in the house. Rooted cuttings of the dragon tree initially grow relatively slowly and reach a height of about 1.5 to 2.5 meters only after many years.

Now, if necessary, the height growth of a dragon tree with a relatively dark location can be targeted. Conversely, it is not particularly difficult to downsize a too big fallen dragon tree: A cut is easily possible with these extraordinary plants at any altitude. Cut the gray stem into the desired height with a pair of sharp pruning shears and soon a new leaf crown will emerge just below the interface.
Tips
Even the compact waking species of the dragon tree are not likely to be what real bonsai experts imagine under a miniature tree. Nevertheless, the dragon tree is very popular as a houseplant, as it grows without special care measures compact as a bonsai, while exciting exciting exotic.
