Chili cultivation - How to make an exemplary start
Set the course for a successful chili culture as part of the breeding. How to properly choose the plants is not a book with seven seals. For the seeds to germinate, only a few specifications are important.
In the spring, chilies pull under impeccable constellations
In the local latitudes, the time is limited to grow chilies successfully. If the germination time progresses quickly, the maturation period extends up to 120 days. Consequently, only February and March are considered for cultivation.
In the warm room or heated greenhouse, the heat-loving seeds find advantageous conditions. To germinate, they seek temperatures of at least 22 degrees Celsius and sufficient moisture. The lighting conditions gain importance later.
First sow after a botanical wake-up call
Mother Nature provided chilli seeds with a protective mechanism so they would not germinate prematurely. Heat and moisture are not enough to end this dormancy. How to put the seeds in a mood for fun:
Experienced hobby gardeners go one step further. To prevent the formation of rot, they disinfect the seeds in a 3% hydrogen peroxide solution (H2O2). After 20 minutes, the tincture is diluted 50% with water to soak the seeds for 24 hours.
The sowing determines the germination duration
Subsequent to the pre-treatment, the preferential feeds seamlessly into the sowing. You need these materials:
Fill the seed box with substrate and insert the seeds 2-3 mm deep in it. The distance is about 2 cm. As a result, sift the seeds thinly with the soil and moisten it with a fine shower.
At a constant temperature of 25 to 28 degrees Celsius, the germination time is 10 to 30 days. Lower temperatures significantly lengthen the process. A cover by plastic wrap or the space in the mini greenhouse create a conducive, moist and warm microclimate.
Seedlings want to the south window
If the first cotyledons blink, the tender plantlets will now come to light. Ideal is a place on the sunny south window with shading in the midday sun. Spoil the seedlings now and then with a little water, the growth proceeds quickly.
After another 2 to 4 weeks pikieren is on the program. Now each chili wants to form its root ball in its own planter, before it goes out from mid-May on the balcony or in the bed.
Tips & Tricks
In each substrate, fungal spores, insect eggs and viruses may lurk on the seeds. Prevent this danger by means of a disinfection. Place the sauteed in a ovenproof dish for 20 minutes at 180 degrees Celsius in the oven or for 8 minutes at 800 watts in the microwave.
