Canna cut: what, when and how?
Pouring and manuring are the two essential aspects in the care of Canna. But even if cutting does not play a major role, it can become significant. At what times and how it should be done, read here.
Cut the rhizomes
If the rhizomes of Canna are out of the earth, they can be cut up. This has the purpose of multiplying the Canna. All you have to do is pick up a spade or a knife and cut through the rhizomes. Every piece that is supposed to become a plant should have an eye (sprouting point).
The cutting of the rhizomes has the side effect that a single plant gets more power, because side gears are eliminated. Therefore, the cut is worthwhile if the flower tube has gotten old, has greatly proliferated over foothills and is to be rejuvenated.
Cut the stems and leaves
The leaves and stems of Canna should be cut in autumn. But beware: You should not cut them before they are not yellowed or look brown and dried up. They will produce important nutrients for the flowers in the coming year. These nutrients enter the rhizomes and are stored there.

Cut the flowers
The flowers of Canna do not necessarily have to be cut off. It is sufficient to pluck the withered petals during the summer. This has the advantage that then new flowers on the stems emerge and the flowering time lasts until autumn.
Note: Basically, the flowers of Canna are not very suitable for the vase cut or bouquets. Away from the plant, they do not last long and fade quickly. It is better to leave them on the plant, where they are present for a long time.
Tips & Tricks
Always use tools or tools that have been cleaned to cut the flower tube. If there are disease spots such as spores of mildew, they can attack the previously healthy plant.
