Permanently preserving blackberries

Blackberries continue to provide fresh fruit over a long period of time, from July to October. Unfortunately, these spoil the shrub often very quickly.

The biggest problem with the shelf life of blackberries is mold, which can often spread surprisingly quickly. Even in the fridge, harvested blackberries usually only last a maximum of two days. But even in unearned form, blackberries often fall prey to the shrub of the mold. This always happens when it comes in the middle of summer to extended periods of wet with ongoing rains. Lack of drying, the immature fruits can then mold on the shrub. Immediately remove such fruits by cutting them and throwing them on the compost. Otherwise, the moldy fruits quickly infect the remaining fruits on a blackberry bush with mold.

The processing after the harvest

Immediately after collecting the blackberries, allow some time for processing if you do not want to consume the fruits fresh right away. Before any further processing, especially wild blackberries should be thoroughly washed with clean water to prevent infection with the dangerous fox tapeworm. If the blackberries are baked in a cake or in delicious muffins, this increases the shelf life by the accompanying dehydration by several days. The freezing of blackberries

Freezing is also a great way to preserve blackberries almost indefinitely. Before freezing, you should first wash the collected fruit thoroughly and dry carefully with kitchen paper. Freeze the blackberries then portioned in bowls or freezer bags. Even if the fruit does not have the consistency of fresh blackberries after thawing, the taste and nutrients for use in cakes and sundaes are preserved in any case. You can also puree the fresh and washed blackberries before freezing with a blender. Freeze the blackberry marrow in an ice cube shape and you get fruity ice cubes for refining summer soft drinks.
