Is the fertilizer effective?

The stinging nettle is extremely effective as an organic fertilizer. A natural fertilizer could not be easier to produce and could hardly be better in its effectiveness. Expensive guano fertilizers, blue grain and co can be dispensed with, if you make the effort to make a broth or a liquid of nettles.

Stinging nettles grow almost everywhere where there are nutrient-rich and moist soils. They are considered pointer plants for nitrogen. They contain not only a lot of it, but also a lot of minerals and trace elements. With them, the plants can be fertilized carefree every week.

For which plants is nettle fertilizer suitable?

All useful and ornamental plants (like vegetables such as tomatoes, pumpkins, cucumbers and other starvation animals such as roses), even the lawn, can be fertilized with a stinging nettle or a stinging nettle. Note the following mixing ratios (nettle jets: water) when using a slurry:

How is the fertilizer made?

Nettle making yourself is very easy. All you need are stinging nettles, water, a minimum of 12 liters of plastic or plastic jar, scissors or a knife, a stick and gloves.

Now it says: wait. Depending on the heat in the location, it takes 1 to 2 weeks until the manure is ready. Only when the liquid stops foaming or forms bubbles is it ready to use. Attention: It smells strongly of ammonia.

If you need the fertilizer right away, you can make a brew. However, this is less effective because it is not fermented. For this purpose, you also use nettle leaves and, unlike manure production, let them soak in water for only 12 to 24 hours.

With the nettle fertilizer you kill two birds with one stone: It provides the plants with nutrients and it acts as a plant protection agent against, for example, aphids. For this you should give the manure or the brew directly to the affected areas.

Tips

Nettle as a fertilizer can also be made in late autumn, winter or spring, when the plants do not grow outside. You can collect and dry the stinging nettles at harvest time and later add to a slurry. In the trade there are also stinging nettle powders to buy for those who shy away from picking themselves.
