They bloom overflowing. It almost looks like a sea of flowers. You hardly see any leaves. But without occasionally receiving a visit from the rose scissors, this does not last long with the abundance of flowers of the ground cover roses. When is the right cutting time? How do you proceed in detail?

There are those who do not cut ground cover roses until spring, but there are also those that cut them in the fall. When you cut your groundcover roses, it is up to you! In principle, however, a cut in the spring is recommended, as it can be immediately removed by frozen frost shoots.
When cutting in spring or autumn, cut the following:
Cut back every 4 to 5 years
In contrast to Edelrosen, Ramblerrosen and shrub roses, ground cover roses should only be cut back strongly every 4 to 5 years. As a result, their growth is kept compact, dense and strong. The rosebush is stimulated to form new shoots.
When pruning, the plant is shortened to about 15 cm. 1 to 2 eyes should still be present per shoot. The pase time for such a radical cut is the early spring. You can use both a pair of scissors and a hedge trimmer. Ground cover roses are usually robust.
But there are also certain exceptions that can handle such a radical cut every year and which are recommended every year. These include, for example, the varieties 'The Fairy' and 'Swany'.
In the summer, clean out the old flowers?
While the withered flowers of other types of roses are easy to clean, this is difficult with the groundcover roses. Due to the low growth, the confused shoots and the many thorns, it is a tedious task to remove the old flowers every week.
It is better if you wait until the flowering is over in July. Then cut the whole plant down a bit. It drives new and with luck it comes in the middle / end of August to a Nachblüte. Note: Not all varieties bloom twice a year!
Propagation: cut cuttings
In addition to the care, a cut of ground cover roses can also serve to increase them. You just have to find suitable shoots. The shoots should be about 10 cm long, straight and healthy. The lower leaves and any flowers are removed and the cutting comes into the moist soil.
Tips
Make sure the cutting tool is sharpened and well cleaned before use! This is the only way to avoid infection with fungus pathogens that may be present on the cutting tool, and the cut can be carried out properly.
