Framing and bordering flower bed with stones
When you apply stones to the flower bed, you not only achieve a modern, attractive result, but also reduce the care required. Not only that the stones form an interesting contrast to the lush sea of flowers, weeds also have no chance here.
preparation
For a stone bed is best a sun-drenched and rather dry place in the garden. If the site is too humid and too dark, you can quickly get into trouble with moss. Once the site has been chosen, lift a pit about 15 centimeters deep and fill it with a mixture of the excavated material, plenty of compost and horn chips. The lining with a weed foil is recommended in order to reduce the growth of unwanted plants - especially stubborn root weeds - from the outset. The stones themselves arrange directly on the fleece, with the larger specimens always down below and should be stabilized with heaped up sand.

Basically, all plants are suitable for the Steinbeet, unless it is pronounced wetland plants. Most comfortable here, however, drought-resistant plants feel comfortable. Especially flowers and shrubs from the Mediterranean area like lavender are perfect. For colorful variety provide roses, Catchfly, Edelrauten, Zierlauch and Junkerlilien. Flowering shrubs and grasses, bulbous flowers and groundcover (eg creeping cranesbill or thyme) can also be found in the Steinbeet.
Planting and grooming
When laying the stone bed, the rule is that the stones are laid out first and the plants are set later. Either free the areas to be planted from the start or remove the stones to the bottom. Cut the fleece in a cross shape and plant the plant in the planting hole. Fill it with soil, press the plant well and redistribute the stones around the plant. After the bed has been completely planted, it should be thoroughly watered with the water hose. Later, you should water regularly, because in stone beds, the plants are quickly plagued by thirst.
Tips
Frame a conventional flowerbed with stones so it does not overgrow its edge. This limitation also makes later care easier, because the edge makes it easier to mow lawns.
