Is the bitterwort toxic?
The bitter-root (Latin: Lewisia cotyledon) is not poisonous. But also has no healing effect, as the name may suggest. This is attributed to the Yellow Gentian (Gentiana lutea), which is often called in the vernacular also bitter-root.
The Lewisia, on the other hand, is also known as the porcelain flower and a very decorative ornamental plant. There are hardy and frost-sensitive varieties in different colors. The porcelain rose loves a sunny location and is quite easy to maintain, but does not tolerate waterlogging. With the help of daughter rosettes the reproduction is relatively easy and uncomplicated possible. Frost-sensitive varieties should best winter in a conservatory or greenhouse.
