Grow trees from seeds yourself - That's how it works
Growing trees from seeds is very time-consuming and you need a lot of patience with many species until the seed has become a real tree. However, breeding is worthwhile, as each seed carries a surprise: since the genetic material of several trees unites here, with a little luck you may even discover a new variety.

The most important thing about seed farming is that you only use absolutely fresh seeds. This should either be collected by yourself or purchased from a dealer of trust. However, make sure that it has actually only fresh seeds on offer and has kept them correctly. Old or incorrectly stored seed shows a poor germination rate. The easiest way to indigenous tree species is to simply walk in the woods in the fall and collect acorns, beechnuts, chestnuts, fir and pine cones. Cones should be placed in a warm room for a few days until they open and you can collect the seeds.

The seeds of native tree species need a cold period with frosty temperatures, so that the dormancy is broken. Plant these seeds in the fall or winter directly outdoors and do not forget to attach a protective net against birds and rodents. The stratification, as this procedure is also called, can also be artificially induced. To do this, pack the seeds in a container of moist sand, which you then place in the vegetable compartment of the refrigerator for a few weeks.

Seeds with a hard shell or husk, such as pine or beech seeds, are best soaked in water before sowing. This softens the shell and facilitates germination.
