Watching them is not only entertaining, especially if there are children on the property. These native amphibians are even extremely useful and help in the natural, so environmentally friendly pest control.

On the other hand, you should not take amphibians and all the other small animals with you on the next forest walk or from the shore of your village pond to your home. In most species, the stock has fallen dramatically in recent years, so they are now on the Red List and thus under very special protection. Some animals, such as the common toad, are known for their extreme location loyalty, so that a permanent implementation can even be life-threatening. As an excellent beneficial insect in your garden, it kills large numbers of noxious insects such as snails, but still lives very dangerous, as these toads are among the favorite menus of grass snakes, raccoons and gray egrets.
Create daytime caches and retreats
It is not about the creation of a completely new garden pond. For amphibian-friendly habitats is already taken care if there are one or more protected brushwood or leafy heaps on the property. If necessary, it also does an old, uncovered stone wall and the best is a garden that is as natural as possible designed and amphibians not only sufficient food, but also to provide protection. In addition, the use of chemical insect and snail killers and pesticides should generally be avoided in the environment of the animals.
Dangerous for the animals are ground-level pools or ponds, especially if they were built with vertical walls and without shallow water sections on the shore. It is not possible to leave these danger zones with your own strength, so that in such cases you should set up exit aids as life-saving measures. Just as dangerous for amphibians are the light shafts, which are often mounted in front of basement windows. If the animals fall in, they usually have to starve unnoticed there and completely dry themselves from the inside as a result of the removal of the liquid. To protect it, it is enough, if over the coarse metal mesh a tight-meshed plastic net is stretched, which protects the frogs, toads and newts from a possible death.
