Red maple or red maple (Acer rubrum) is one of the predominant tree species in eastern USA and Canada. This maple species is - compared to other - very adaptable and suitable for various surfaces. In addition, the ornamental tree thrilled by its very intense autumnal leaf color, which is part of the famous Indian Summer in his homeland. No wonder, then, that this maple is now also planted in German gardens.
The bigger the tree, the prouder the price
There is only one downside: Since the red maple (still) quite rare and also, like so many other maple species, is comparatively difficult to use from seeds or cuttings, such a specimen, of course, costs a lot of money. The bigger and older the copy, the more expensive the price. A larger, well-developed solitaire with a height of about two meters can sometimes cost well between 200, - and 300, - EUR! Seedlings, on the other hand, are available for only a few euros, but do not always develop into a stately tree, as hoped.

In particular, red maple bonsai are very expensive in price, after all, this maple is rarely trained to miniature tree and thus has a great rarity. This is not necessarily due to the fact that red maple is particularly difficult to train or care for - but it takes quite a long time to develop from the young tree to a handsome specimen of bonsai. On average, between 10 and 15 years of intensive care and employment, enthusiasts must plan in order to create a miniature work of art from a blank.
Pulling red maple seeds cheaply - a guide
Anyone who is interested in a red maple, but the issue for a finished copy shy of, can itself draw from such seed. The seed is available from specialist retailers as well as from many online shops, and of course you also need to be very lucky - maple seed is not germinable for a very long time and so some semen supply may prove sterile. Otherwise, remember that the red maple is a cold germ, whose seeds must be stratified before sowing. This is best done by packing the seeds into a well-sealable bag of wet sand and storing them for some (about four to six) in the vegetable compartment of your refrigerator. Then the seeds can be sown.
Tips
Of course, in view of the prices, it is the greater the loss if the freshly planted red maple leaves the leaves hanging in a short time. In particular, with regard to the location and the soil conditions, you should plan the planting carefully.
