How hardy are Wicken?

Care in the fall
Do not trim anything that has died during the last weeks of autumn. As a result, the vetch forms seeds that you can harvest and use for offspring. After the first frosts, remove the dead plant parts and dig out the root bales completely.
If you would like to set one year's vetch at this point next year, you should enrich the soil with mature compost so that the Vicia finds enough nutrients.
Perennial shrubs
Perennial pecking are not real vetches, but belong to the family of pea peas. Since the flowers of this perennial plant look deceptively similar to those of the Vicia, these flowering plants are referred to in our language as Wicken.
The perennial vetch is hardy
The perennial vetch is very robust and absolutely hardy. At best, it is cut back a little in autumn, as the above-ground parts of the plant serve as protection against the cold. Only in the spring do you cut this vetch back near the ground to stimulate the new shoot.
Although the perennial vetch can be very cold, it is advisable to apply additional winter protection in very harsh regions. Well suited are branches of twigs that spread loosely over the plant.
