Simple or time consuming - the care of verbena
The verbena belongs to the uncomplicated plants. This applies both to their existence in the pot or planter on the balcony and in the garden bed. Nevertheless, she should receive a portion of care in order to be able to enjoy her for a long time.
Is the Verbena coping with drought?
The Verbena needs a lot of water, but does not cope with waterlogging. If it grows on the balcony, it must be watered regularly. The earth should never completely dry out. To prevent it from dripping wet, a well-drained soil and a drain from the pot is required.
Ideally, the soil is kept moderately moist for the verbena. If it grows in the bed, the soil can be precautionarily provided with a layer of mulch such as bark, compost or grass clippings.
Do verbs need regular fertilization?
Besides thirsty, verbs are extremely hungry fellows. They should be given nutrients at regular intervals. On the balcony, it should be supplied in their growing season from April once a week with fertilizer such as Guanodünger. A long flowering period is the result.
In the field, it is sufficient to supply the Verbena with liquid fertilizer once a month. Furthermore, it is advisable to bring the soil nutrient to the fore before sowing or planting. This can be done for example in the form of compost or manure.
How can the verbena be propagated?
The verbena can easily multiply by their seeds. Sow them in March at home or in April in the field. The seeds are easily covered with soil. After about three weeks, the first seedlings can be seen.
Often, verbs multiply self-sowing. Their trained seeds are cold germs. If they fall down in the fall, they will not germinate. Only in the spring, after they have experienced a cold spell, they are encouraged to germinate.
