Most plant lovers plant the verbena as they enjoy looking at their magical flowers. But hand on heart: Is that really recommended or is the Verbena poisonous and a potential source of danger for humans?
No blanket answer, but: The dose makes the poison
The verbena, which is usually one year old in Germany, is edible as an herb. Nevertheless, you should not overdo it with the consumption. The verbena contains verbenaline, a glycoside that is harmful at high dosages. It is responsible, among other things, for its bitter taste.
So far, no poisoning by the Verbena known. Quite the contrary: Used with caution, the Verbena helps, for example:
