Moist tulip bulbs mold - so they dry properly

Cleaning with water is frowned upon
At the end of flowering, when tulips have completely retracted their foliage, the leaves are cut off near the ground. Now carefully dig out the onions with as much soil as possible so that the delicate root strands do not suffer any damage. Since polluted tubers have no business in the summer quarters, now a careful cleaning is on the program. Water has no business in this interaction.
Clean tulip bulbs properly with a coarse brush. Alternatively, rub the tubers with a dry cloth until all the earth crumbs are removed.
So easy to dry tulip bulbs
In each freshly dug up tulip bulb still dwells a water reservoir. As this moisture can no longer be used for the supply of leaves and flowers, this can cause rot and mold on the inside of the bulb. Prevent this dilemma by drying the tulip bulbs before storing them:
The process is completed only when the tubers are completely dry. As long as small traces of moisture are perceptible, the healthy oversight is doomed to failure. In the dark, cool room at temperatures between 5 and 10 degrees Celsius, the dry, dormant tulip bulbs stay undisturbed until the beginning of the planting season in autumn.
Tips
Store tulip bulbs far away from fruits and vegetables. Apples, pears and other fruits release ethylene. This ripening gas encourages flower bulbs to expel prematurely. As a result, the refrigerator and pantry are unsuitable as a summer home for tulips.
