The seeded dry grass species determines in detail which care is important. If you choose a low-growing mixture of herbs and grasses for alkaline soil, the care is different from that of grasslands for alkaline-stressed soil with a growth height of 60 to 100 centimeters. The following premises apply to the cultivation of dry grasslands in general:
Highly alert dry grass is mowed once or twice a season, in July and September. Start a short stubble lawn and cut four to six times a season. Since a conventional lawn mower is not designed for mowing, skilled gardeners resort to scythe.

The perfect maintenance of dry grass will not worry you if your garden is suitable for the keeping of sheep and goats. If these animals graze on a nutrient-poor grassland, all conditions for a regular mowing and nutrient supply are naturally fulfilled.
