The perl hyacinth does not need to be overwintered. It is frost hardy and easily survives the winter outdoors. Only when extreme minus temperatures are to be expected, the plant should be covered with mulch or brushwood. In the pot, it should definitely be quartered in a frost-free, cool and dark place.
Which diseases can play a role?
Grape hyacinths are usually robust. Sometimes they are attacked by the burn mushroom, which is recognizable by black spots and a light spore powder on the plant. Diseased parts should be removed quickly.
Does the grape hyacinth need fertilizer?
About a fertilizer, this onion plant is happy. She can be fed with compost in spring. A phosphorus-rich flowering fertilizer is also good. From August (when the leaves have dried), the grape hyacinth should no longer be fertilized.
The application of fertilizer ideally takes place shortly before flowering. A second application of fertilizer is recommended after flowering and shortly before ripening.
