Before moving to the field, tomato plants must be hardened. For this purpose, they spend a week each day on the partially shaded balcony to return to the house overnight. At the earliest in mid-May, the sensitive plants are finally allowed to go outdoors. There they are protected from the cold under fleece or in a foil tunnel. Only in the sunny, warm location can they grow.
