Are tomatoes light germs?
Tomato seeds need the bright red spectral range of the sun's rays to germinate. Therefore, the botanists charge them to the light germs. With a beam of light, however, only a part of the germination conditions is fulfilled. What else belongs to it, you will learn here.
Pretreatment raises the germ readiness
At the end of February / beginning of March, the cultivation of tomato plants begins behind glass. The self-harvested or purchased seeds are by nature not readily ready for germination. After a simple pretreatment, the germination then rises immensely:

Light alone does not sprout tomato seeds
When the culture pots are filled with nutrient-poor substrate, sow the prepared seeds at a distance of 3 centimeters. The seed may be covered with soil or sand for a maximum of 0.5 centimeters. From this point on, the following factors should complement each other so that the tomato seeds germinate quickly:
Under bright sunlight, sowing should not be advised. The tender seeds would spoil within a short time. Normal daylight is sufficient to move the light germs to activity. Under ideal conditions, the germination period is between 10 and 14 days. Pikiert as soon as the first real pair of sheets has developed.
Tips & Tricks
Since light germs are always threatened to be washed away by the irrigation water, clever hobby gardeners use the following trick. Instead of watering the seeds from above, they administer the water from below. For this purpose, the culture pots are half in water. Due to the capillary action, the substrate absorbs the moisture. Once the Saaterde is wet to the surface, the pots come back into the greenhouse.
