Cultivate thyme in the pot
Like so many Mediterranean plants, thyme needs dry and meager soil and a sunny spot as much as possible. However, the spice herb does not feel most comfortable on the windowsill, but in the fresh air - for example on a balcony, no matter how small. By no means small should be the tub in which you want to plant your thyme. The plant develops very widely branched and also very deep roots, which ensure an adequate supply with water and nutrients even in dry times.
Maintain pot thyme properly
While thyme planted in the garden does not usually need to be poured or fertilized, you should pour thyme in the pot regularly and also fertilize from time to time. However, it is essential to find the right measure, because an over-supply of water and nutrients does not tolerate the hunger artist. In particular, waterlogging causes the roots to rot first and then the entire plant dies. As soon as your thyme turns brown from below and, paradoxically, looks dried up, it's probably too wet. In this case, it helps to replant the plant as soon as possible in a new pot and fresh substrate and perform a root cutting.

Thyme feels in pots of natural materials - such as clay - much more comfortable than in plastic pots. Excess moisture can easily evaporate from such permeable fabrics, while it does not find any way to escape from plastic. In addition, you should ensure within the pot for a good drainage, so that waterlogging can not even form.
