How to Refine a Fruit Tree by Occulting - Instructions and Tips
Nurseries primarily use the oculization or ophthalmic treatment to propagate fruit trees because they have many advantages over other techniques. So the method is quite simple and fast to perform, also, the growth rates are very high.
The right time
The perfect time to start is either the spring from May to June or the summer between July and August. In the spring, the ocularization takes place on the driving eye. This means that the inserted eye drives out in the summer and forms a drive. However, this often does not mature and therefore freezes back in the winter. Therefore, domestic fruit trees are mainly propagated by ocularization on the sleeping eye. This is not until next spring, but that does not mean that it only then grows.

The oculation should be applied at a time of good bark solution. In addition, it should be so late in the year that the eye does not go out. A good time is therefore between July and early September. The documents used are usually one to two years old.
Cutting out the finishing circle
The finishing veins cut you shortly before from this year's vigorous shoots. To reduce evaporation, cut all leaves off the same way. The petioles, on the other hand, do not need to be removed because they are still useful for later refining. If the finishing does not take place immediately after the cut, store the rice until it is wrapped in a damp cloth.
Prepare base
On the day of finishing, first clean the root of the rootstock with a dry cloth of dust, sand and other debris. Even disturbing shoots are completely cut away. Now at the level of the intended finishing - usually in about ten centimeters height - a T-section created, which later receives the eye of the noble variety. The cut should only cut through the outer bark and not go into the wood.
