Is there actually an increased thuja death?
Garden owners increasingly complain that not only individual trees of life, but sometimes even a whole hedge from Thuja dies within a short time. In fact, this phenomenon has been increasing in recent years - even in old tree-hedges, which have long grown without problems.
What does thuja-dying express?
The old Thuja hedge suddenly turns brown in many places. At first, the shoot tips are discolored. Within a relatively short time whole shoots are withered and the tree dies.
Discoloration of needles and shoots occurs more frequently in a newly planted thuja hedge. In this case, however, the trees are usually still save if you act immediately.
Causes of Thuja Dying?
Very often, incorrect care is responsible for dying. The gardener thinks it's too good with watering and fertilizing or the hedge does not get enough moisture.
If a lot of Thujen die and even old hedges die, it can not be ruled out that climate change will be partly responsible.
More and more often it is very dry in the summer, so that the Flachwurzler does not get enough water. In other words, the hedge simply dries up.
Prevent thuja death by proper care
In dry summers and winters you also need to water an old Thuja hedge regularly, even if the trees can feed themselves under normal circumstances.
When planting the Thuja hedge prevent
Do not plant the Tree of Life too tightly. This is especially true for the particularly popular Thuja emerald.
Prepare the soil well by loosening it thoroughly and applying drainage if necessary. Waterlogging is very dangerous for the young tree of life.
Water the trees after planting regularly. It can take up to two years for the roots to develop sufficiently to absorb moisture from even deeper layers. Do not give too much water to prevent waterlogging.
Tips
A bad location can also contribute to thuja dying. Right next to a street treated with road salt, the tree of life is just as unfavorable as on a path that often makes four-legged friends easier.
