With a little skill pond liner can be completely covered

Cover pond liner - does that make sense?

Who lines his pond with a pond liner, will find that the film remains visible in some places. What you can do to cover the pond liner and make it visually invisible, and whether you should completely cover pond foils, read here.

capillary barrier

One of the most disturbing areas at the garden pond is the edge area. Here, the pond liner must be led over the edge of the pond and through a small ditch and then buried. That's as capillary barrier unavoidable.

The purpose of the capillary barrier is that the surrounding soil does not simply "empty" the pond by capillary action. This would inevitably be the case with unprotected pond edges and a pond liner pulled up just below the edge of the pond.

The problem is that at this point the film remains visible - and that looks little nice. Although it is a possibility to sprinkle the film with gravel, in most cases it is not very good.

Shore and embankment mats

These mats can simply be placed on the pond liner. They reach down the embankment a little bit and cover the film very well in the edge area. This has several advantages:

The mats are reasonably priced in the frame - they are available in different widths between 60 cm and 2 m, for the current meter you have to expect about 10 EUR. A starting plant including pasem fertilizer is often already included (flowers or moss). Especially the flower solutions are often very intense flowering and usually easy to maintain.

You should be careful with coconut mats or mats made of jute. Although they are a good solution, they often rot within a few years. Then they have to be removed because they also cause foul odors.

stone films

Also stone foils are a possibility to cover the pond foil in the bank area. They consist of a plastic mat covered with a small layer of stone. The steepness of the embankment is irrelevant when using stone sheeting, they can be used on all embankment types - whether flat or steep. The prices are about the same as for the plant foils and shore mats.

Tips

You can also use stone foils to visually hide the pond liner in a stream and to better protect the pond liner. A complete lining of a pond interior with stone foil is usually unnecessary and usually nonsensical.
