Harvest tagetes seeds - is that possible?
Many annual or non-hardy plants in the garden develop seeds during the summer that you can collect and use for offspring. This also applies to the marigold, which forms many seeds that germinate very well and are therefore ideal for the propagation of Tagetes.
When will the seeds be harvested?
In order for the Tagetes to keep producing new flowers, it is advisable to cut off the shredded plant parts as quickly as possible. The optimal time for the seed harvest is therefore the fall. Do not remove anything that has become bloated, but allow the flowers of the marigold flower to dry on the plant. The elongated, black seeds of the Tagetes are stuck in small seed tubes, at the top of which are often still dried up petals at harvest.

The well-dried seeds should be kept cool and protected from light. Wrapped paper bags are ideal for packaging as they are breathable unlike plastic bags. This prevents mold growth of the seed. In addition, the bags can be well labeled.
Beware of breeding varieties
It is not always guaranteed that the self-made marigolds have exactly the same flower colors and stature heights as their parents. Nevertheless, the offspring is rewarding, as can be used from the self-collected seeds very cheap many Tagetes-young plants.
Tips
