Freeze sweet potato
The sweet relatives of the domestic potato is more and more often found in supermarkets. Delicious recipe suggestions make curious and seduce you to buy the comparatively large tubers. If not everything is consumed, the rest may be frozen for the next cooking round.

More and more sweet potato varieties are coping with the climatic conditions in this country. There is nothing standing in the way of cultivating your own garden. By autumn at the latest, it says: where to go with the big harvest?
The tubers are available year-round in the supermarket, but even here only the autumn price is temptingly low.
Never freeze raw
Raw frozen sweet potatoes lose both their texture and taste. You do not have to do without freezing. If you invest some working time and cook the sweet potatoes, they will remain edible after thawing.
Cook sweet potatoes
Blanching is not enough with this vegetable. The sweet potato must be cooked completely.
- Clean the tubers under running water, using additionally a vegetable brush. Now cook the sweet potatoes unpeeled so that the ingredients are better preserved. Of course, if you prefer, you can peel the tubers beforehand. After about 20 minutes, check if the potatoes are cooked. Prick it in with a fork or a knife. Drain the cooking water and allow the boiled potatoes to cool completely. Wrap each potato in aluminum foil and place in a freezer bag and then in the chest.
Freeze slices and cubes
Since the tubers are quite large, it sometimes makes sense to freeze them already cut small for later use.
Thaw sweet potatoes again
In stews and other cooking dishes, frozen sweet potato pieces can be easily added.
Whole sweet potatoes can be thawed ready for consumption in the oven. First, the old aluminum foil is replaced by new ones. Then they come in the oven for about 20 to 30 minutes at 180 degrees Celsius, depending on their size.
Tips
Sweet potatoes derived from organic farming do not have to be peeled at all. Their skin is edible and tastes good too.
Shelf life in the freezer
Pre-boiled may store sweet potatoes for 12 months at minus 18 degrees Celsius. If there is enough space in the freezer, it is a good idea to freeze a year's supply.
