What must be the location for Norway maple?
Norway maple (Acer platanoides) is found everywhere in town and country. The native maple species is not picky about the basic conditions. Nevertheless, when choosing the location, some important aspects must be taken into account so that the tree develops magnificently. You can find out which ones here.
Norway maple is location-tolerant - with one exception
Early in the year, Norway maple demonstrates its strong presence at its heyday. When other deciduous trees are still bare, Acer platanoides brag about their yellowish panicle flowers. The high density of distribution suggests that the beautiful tree thrives in every location. In fact, Norway maple is quite tolerant, with one exception:
The sunnier the location, the more colorful the fall foliage presents itself. This also applies to the more colorful subspecies and varieties that have colorful leaves throughout the gardening season, such as Blood Maple 'Crimson King'. At the low-light location, the leaves on Drummond's pointed maple lose their creamy outline and become completely green.
Observe root growth in the siting
When selecting a location, the right distance to walls, terraces and neighboring plants is more important than the light and ground conditions. Norway maple spreads its roots flat and expansive. Please keep a distance of at least 300 cm to obstacles of all kinds.
Tips
For the front garden, a maple is too oversized as a house tree. However, you do not have to do without the magnificent foliage dress and the spectacular autumn colors of an Acer platanoides at this location. Globular Globosum is the refined variant of the maple. The decorative tree remains on an average height of 450 cm and thrilled with a spherical crown.
