Is there a spindle tree with a high stem?
In many nurseries and garden departments of the hardware stores there are high-stemmed plants in numerous variations to buy. Unfortunately the spindle shrub is seldom part of it. Do not find a pase plant, then just pull your high tribe yourself.
Is it possible to draw a Hochstamm yourself?
It takes a bit of patience to pull a high stock by itself, but it is quite possible and saves quite a bit of money as a by-product. Even nurseries can of course pay for the lengthy work. A few years, however, you have to take into account, until your cut has become a beautiful high-stemmed spindle shrub. Drag the trunk either directly to the desired location or in a bucket.
How do you draw a high stem?
Look for a young spindle shrub with a strong center line that has grown as straight as possible. Tie the main shoot of this plant to a support bar and cut off all the side shoots. You will do that in the next few years as well, until the spindle shrub has reached the desired trunk height. Now cut the shoot tip. At this altitude, the growth of the crown begins.
Only cap the shoot tip when you are really sure that the trunk is high enough for your needs. The length of the stem can hardly be changed later, then only grows in width and becomes increasingly thicker.
To get a nice round crown, shorten the new side shoots again and again to three or four leaves. Only remove the support rod if the trunk is really strong. Choose a rather high-grade variety of the spindle-shrub to make a high-stem.
